The College of Physicians of Philadelphia appointed a Committee on the Revision of the Pharmacopoeia on 5 September 1877. In addition to its chairman, W. S. W. Ruschenberger, the committee included John B. Biddle, Robert Bridges, R. J. Dunglison, and H. C. Wood. On R. J. Dunglison's resignation, I. Minis Hays was appointed.
